So you’ve either just installed WordPress or had a site built and you want to log in and change something.

First, type the address of your website into your browser’s address bar- e.g. www.alanowen.net, but add /wp-admin to the end (This is the default, but it may be changed by your web designer.) For mine it would be www.alanowen.net/wp-admin

This will bring you to the admin login page of your website. If you are not sure what your username and password are, contact your web designer to find out. If you are not on a shared or public computer, you may want to tick the ‘Remember Me’ box to stay logged in for longer.

Once you have logged in you will have a page that looks something like this –

This is the administration area, where you can change the configuration of your site and create or update posts and pages. On the left you can see the menu where you can view and create pages or posts, update your theme and plugins, moderate comments and adjust settings. In the top right hand corner it says “Howdy, (your name)”. if you hover over this you will see the option to log out. You can also use this menu to change your profile settings, such as public name, password and email address.
